Denver Zoo Lights
Katherine and I decided to go into Denver on new years eve, so we made a whole day trip out of it. We started by going ice skating out doors, then we went to zoo lights at the Denver Zoo, and then we went into downtown and went to the 16th street mall where we unexpectedly saw fireworks at 9pm. We were thinking we had to wait until midnight but they do 2 shows. The entire night was low 40's, which you can't ask for much better in the middle of the night in late December. I also ended up taking this photo last at Zoo Lights.
Last Photo I Took

Through the Tunnel of Lights
The train wasn't running, so I thought I would set up my tripod and take some photos. I didn't take my tripod last year, which was a mistake. This year, just about every photo was taken using my tripod. It also made it easy to take some portraits like the next photo...
On the Tracks
No one was taking pictures down the tracks until I started taking photos. I was there for a few minutes taking pictures, and then I took some photos with Katherine and everyone was so interested in taking the same shot.
Ball Lights
These lights weer really cool - probably only because I've never seen them before. They changed colors in a very smooth and fast gradient.
Skinny Trees
Jumping Into the Bear's Mouth
I took quite a few photos trying to get this one. The bear and the fish move to make an animation where the fish jumps into the bear's mouth. The problem is that it moved really fast and it was really dark out. I took 50+ photos just to get this one.
Epic Elephant
It was hard to get a shot with just Katherine in it. Everyone was around this elephant constantly. Luckily I got one.

Zoom Effect
I wanted to play around with the zoom effect. Basically, you take a long exposure and while the photo is being exposed, you change the zoom on the lens. I like to think of it as warp speed effect.
City and County Building
After Zoo Lights, we went downtown and stopped at the Denver City and County Building.
