Land of LincolnPosted: February 29, 2016On our way back from our St. Loius excursion we stopped in Springfield, Illinois to learn some history about the 16th president of the United States: Abraham Lincoln. Presidential MusuemOur first stop was the presidential museum. This was probably one of the coolest historic museums that I've been to. It was pretty dark inside, so I didn't get a ton of photos, but I tried!Young AbeInside the museum there were 2 main sections: Pre Presidential Years and the White House. This was in the beginning of the Pre Presidential Years where we learned about Abe as a young child and his hard life growing up.Roudy ChildrenApparently Abe's children were known to be rowdy and Abe let them do that. I don't know that I would let my children throw around ink cans. The LincolnThe White HouseThis is a building inside a building. Now I can say I've been in the "White House"! Dresses of the TimeGood thing we don't live in these times anymore!AbeThere were 2 moldings that you could touch, one before Abraham Lincoln took office and one after several years of being president. In just a short amount of time he aged quite a bit!LincolnThe next place we went was to the Lincoln Home National Historic Site.Classic ShotApparently this is the most photographed angle of the Lincoln's home. It's a pretty good angle!AbeThis is Abraham Lincoln's actual desk that he used to write important documents at home.LincolnAbraham Lincoln has a giant tomb in a cemetery in his home town of Springfield, Illinois. You can go inside the tomb and walk to his burial area. Nose PickerKatherine, don't do that!Entrance StatueThis statue is in the entrance to the tomb. I had Katherine open up the door to shine some light on the statue while I took a photo. Gloomy FaceThe entire tomb was filled with statues of Abraham Lincoln throughout his life. CoffinThis is Abraham Lincoln's coffin. His wife and two of his children are buried directly behind where this photo was taken.
