Denver Zoo

Katherine and I went to the Denver Zoo today. We meet one of Katherine's high school friends and her son there for a day at the Zoo! It wasn't too hot and it was overcast all day, so it was a really nice day at the zoo! I ended up taking more photos of non-animals than I did of animals, but that's okay because I've seen all these animals plenty of times.

Photo Notes:

Since Katherine and I were meeting Hannah and Tristan at the zoo, we hung around the front fr a few minutes while we waited for them. There were some cacti up at the front, so I figured, why not take pictures of things that are not animals?

I don't know that I've seen very many blue cacti.

Photo Notes:

Katie asked me to take a picture of her in her hat. Hats don't usually fit her head, but this one does!

Dinosaur!

Photo Notes:

The Denver Zoo has 21 animatronics full sized dinosaurs for the next month. This one is an Iguanodon. I ended up taking more pictures of the dinosaurs than of real animals, but that's okay.

There were a lot of these around the zoo. Of the 21 animatronic dinosaurs, 5 of them were this kind of dinosaur.

Photo Notes:

We saw these guys sleeping away in the morning. I was able to shoot through the fence since the lemurs were far enough away from the fence to blur the fence out.

This is a Parasaurolophus. How do they know what color the head was?

Captain America

Captain America

Photo Notes:

The zoo keeper calls this bird captain America because of the red and slight blue in the feathers. It's the only lorikeet like this that the Denver Zoo has.

I'm not sure what these lorikeets were doing, but it looked pretty non-aggressive. Maybe I was interrupting an intimate moment?

I love the colors in lorikeets heads. I always try and saturate the colors a little in the photos to realize that they don't need any added saturation.

Photo Notes:

I've never seen this bird before, but that's because Katherine and I rarely go inside any of the buildings because they usually smell and everything is behind glass (so there is no good photo opportunities). But Tristan wanted to go into every building and every corner of the zoo.

I'm guessing that in a few months I'll get a picture like this of Katherine in Africa in some sketchy vehicle driven by someone who shouldn't be driving.

We watched the elephant show. One of the things that they told us that I didn't know is that elephant molars can weigh 4lbs and be the size of a brick.

Photo Notes:

This male peacock isn't really showing off very much since he doesn't have all of his feathers. I'm pretty sure this is a male because of the blue body (something the females don't have).
