Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch, Chapman's Peak, and Signal Hill

On our last full day in Cape Town, Katherine and I went to one of the New7Wonders of Nature, Table Mountain. The thing that makes Table Mountain so cool is that you get spectacular views of the city and coast from so high up. The Mountains in Cape Town were not like the mountains I'm used to in Colorado. The Mountains were only a single range that let you view an amazingly large amount without more mountains blocking your view (like most of our hikes in the mountains in Colorado). Even though mountains aren't anything special to us, this one was.

After Table Mountain, Katherine and I decided to go to the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. I figured it would be cool to see some South African flowers. The garden was really cool, and even had a tree canopy walkway, which was really unique!

From The Botanical Gardens, we decided to go on a scenic drive to Chapman's Peak. Chapman's Peak looks over Hoot Bay and had some stunning views of the coast.

Last but not least, we went up to Signal Hill. Just another spot where we could see a lot and got some fantastic panorama views.

Photo Notes:

Katherine and I decided not to hike up Table Mountain. Although that would have been pretty cool, it looked like a killer trail. Pretty much straight up the side of the mountain. Instead, we took the cableway up there. I snapped this shot while we were waiting in line.

Cableway

Cableway

Photo Notes:

This was one of the two cableways that took you up to the top of Table Mountain. It was cool because the floor rotated slowly as you went up the mountain so that everyone could see all angles of the mountain!

3,558ft.

Photo Notes:

Table mountain is 3,558ft high. Another 1,500ft and we would be at the altitude that we live in Colorado. It's crazy to almost be at the altitude that we live at in a place where you can see the ocean!

We got to the top of Table Mountain in the morning, about 9am. There were some good shadows on some of the faces on the mountain. We stayed long enough for all of these shadows to go away.

Photo Notes:

I've been to a few locations where I've been able to see the curvature of the Earth. Most of those locations have been in the middle of endless fields in the middle of the States. Even when looking at the ocean from a beach you can't always see the curvature, at least not like this... From way up here, you could absolutely see the curvature.
