Sanbona and Hermanus

Today was our last day at Sanbona. We got up and went on our last safari. In the afternoon, we drove to Hermanus to do some whale watching. Unfortunately, the winds were too strong, so we weren't able to get on a boat to find the whales. Instead, we went to a recommended viewing point to see if we could spot some whales on our own. Unfortunately, we didn't spot any.

The Tents

The Tents

Photo Notes:

There were the "tents" that we stayed in. They had brick walls and a canopy on the top, so they were "tents". In reality, they were really nice stand alone hotel rooms.

Photo Notes:

You can tell the males because they grind their horns down to be stronger for fighting. The females let their horns grow out to a long thin point.

Photo Notes:

We got lucky seeing this hippo. He was buried in the bushes while we were looking at the rhinos. Our guide spotted him and said we should wait to see if he would get up. Lucky for us, he did, and he gave us quite a show!

Morning Hot Chocolate

Photo Notes:

It was a cold morning, by far the coldest we've had so far. Our guide stopped and asked if anyone wanted to stretch their legs and have some hot chocolate. Everyone immediately said yes.

Our guide told us the story of how this hippo died. He got in a fight with a different hippo, and after running and escaping for his life, he crossed paths with a different hippo. The second hippo won the battle.

Our guide took us to this little pond because the elephants were headed in this direction. He thought that just maybe the elephants would get a drink of water as they passed through. Unfortunately, they didn't stop.

Photo Notes:

We left Sanbona and headed down to Hermanus to do some whale watching. We had reservations to go whale watching at 3pm, but because of the strong winds, they had to cancel the trip. We were a little disappointed, but we decided to see if we could find some whales on our own, but we were not able to find any.
